Nine weeks left

A lot of things that I did last week had something to do with the school. Before the musical I received a message that I could join National Honor Society because my GPA was higher than 3.7. I had to write an essay about scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Also hours of volunteering or community work was required, and you had to be in at least two extra curriculum activities. I got accepted, so on Tuesday night we had the Induction ceremony. We had to say the pledge and then we received our certificates and member cards. This is something that I am honored to be part of!

On Thursday evening Luisa, Mikkel, and I went to dinner with the Middle School language club! The evening was really fun, good food and bad jocks were included :D

My host sister's elementary school did the Peter Pan Jr. musical this year and of course I wanted to see it. We all went so see it on Friday. They did such a good job! The boy who played the captain was so cute and talented, and I bet that he is going to be famous one day.

Bunch of my friends are in our high school orchestra, so I went to see their Spring Concert on Sunday afternoon. I really enjoyed the music, I still can't believe how talented musicians there are in our school! I wish we could have our own orchestra in my high school in Finland too.

How I spent my Easter week

On Thursday evening I joined German, French, and Spanish honor society clubs to their international dinner. Everybody prepared a dish from their country, so I made korvapuusteja, Finnish cinnamon rolls. I had good time there with bunch of my friends, listening to live music, and trying different foods.

We had a day off from school on Friday. Our concert choir had a performance in Good Friday service at the church across the street from our school. The service was a little different that I'm used to, but it was nice to experience a different kind of service, and enjoy the music. Later on that day we went shopping again with Sydney, can't get enough :D

On Sunday morning when I woke up, I saw this Easter basket that the Easter bunny had left for me :D This is how Americans celebrate Easter, everybody gets a basket full of little stuff.

Then in the evening we had a great dinner with the family. A lot of great food was involved, of course :D We also had the next Monday off, so there was no worries of school on next day. This is how I spent my Easter this year! Very relaxed one, including family and friends, and sunny weather.

Normal life

My life after musical has been busy but pretty normal at the same time. I've been attending to Color guard practices on every Tuesday. Bunch of my friends are in it, and I decided to try it because it's something I could not do in Finland. We have been learning some dance moves to the warm up and basic flag spins, and I have really enjoyed it so far!

I forgot to mention about this, but on May 20th me, Luisa, and Mikkel went to middle school to meet with the language club students. We shortly told about our countries (Finland, Brazil, and Denmark), and then they asked some pretty clever questions! It was so nice to talk with the students because all of them were really interested in hearing how our countries are different to US.

On Friday 4th, I gave presentations about Finnish food culture to three different culinary 2 classes. I spent a lot of time doing the presentation where I told information about Finnish culture, the ingredients we use in cooking, every day eating schedule, and traditional foods. Making this presentation made me miss things from home, but luckily I still had few rye bread slices in the freezer to calm down my feelings :D

One day I went shopping with my host mom, and when we came home, I organized my closet and realized how much I stuff I've actually bought here... I need to find out a way how to get all this stuff to Finland! But I bet I'm not the only exchange student who is struggling with this!

I got a little hair cut. Big thanks to my host mom who has been cutting my hair during this year! This Monday I also went to have a dinner with my liaisons. It's always so nice to catch up with them and talk about exchange year things.

This Wednesday I finally went to Taco Bell with Natalie and Marissa! Now I only need to go to Burger King, IHOP, and Dunkin' Donuts so I can officially say that I've went to all of the most famous American food places.

Art class!

This week rehearsals with the Glitter Girls group started. The most difficult thing is that the rehearsals are always before the school at 7am, which is pretty tiring. We are doing the songs Roots Before Branches and Stars Shall I Find.

Prom dress shopping with Sydney! We tried on some prom dresses, but I might order my online. Instead of a dress we found these American dollar leggings from H&M, I didn't get the though :D

I must give a shout out to this weather! Today it was +28 celsius warm, absolutely amazing. I can't believe it's only 13th of April!

I was going to do another post about the musical, but instead please go here http://srfilmvideo.zenfolio.com/f107757644 to see more pictures from the show if you are interested.
